Finding the leaking section of a roof is often the most difficult step in the repair process. Where leaking water actually gets through the roof at isn’t typically where you will see the signs of the leak. Roofing has several layers of materials. A leak can happen at each step in the layers. Water has a way of getting in under things and then traveling to find another opening. Sometimes this happens not necessarily because of a hole in the roof but because high winds blew or forced water up under the shingles. Sometimes the water that gets through will lay there and not find a way through all of the layers. This is still a problem because that water being trapped can and will expand when temperatures drop and the trapped water turns to ice. The expansion will tear the layers of the roofing materials.
