Siding

Removing vinyl siding from your house is something you can easily do yourself to save on having to hire a contractor.  You may want to do this to entirely remove all the vinyl siding from your house or to take off sections to replace with new vinyl siding.  Removing vinyl siding is not difficult.  All it takes is a few simple tools and some of your time and patience to get the job done.  Here are step-by-step instructions for how to remove vinyl siding from your house.

You will need to have a few simple tools for removing vinyl siding.  The first thing you will need is a tool called a zip tool.   A zip tool is a vinyl siding removal tool.  The zip tool has a flat metal blade that bends at an angle and forms a hook.  The hook is what you will insert beneath the vinyl siding panel to remove the siding from the house.  You can pick up a zip tool at your local hardware or home improvement store.  You will also need a pry bar and hammer for removing nails from the vinyl siding panels.

The first thing you will want to do is to identify the vinyl siding panel that you want to remove.  Next find the bottom edge of the vinyl panel just above the piece of vinyl siding you want to remove.  Slide your zip tool along the lower edge and hook it into the notch.

Pull down on the zip tool.  This will unlock the vinyl siding panel you are trying to remove from the vinyl siding above.  Continue to hook the notch on the vinyl siding panel all along its length.

Once the vinyl siding panel is unlocked you can lift it up to expose the nail strip that is attaching the vinyl siding to the house.  Use your hammer or a pry bar to remove the nails.

Once you have removed the nails from the piece of vinyl siding you can push the vinyl siding down to completely unlock the panel and remove it.  Before doing this it is a good idea to draw a line above the top of the siding panel you are removing.  This will help you when install the replacement siding in the proper location.

As you can see, removing vinyl siding from your house is not a hard thing to do.  It only requires a few simple tools and some of your time.  Just follow these step-by-step instructions and you will have vinyl siding removed from your house in no time at all.
